When your beautiful new bundle of joy arrives, it is one of the greatest feelings in the world. You are a proud new mommy. You are ecstatically happy, but there is one thing that all new moms struggle with, the weight loss after childbirth. There is an abundance of weight loss information out there. Some of it is really good and some is really, REALLY bad. Generally you look for the fastest way to lose baby weight. Why wouldn’t you? You think “I want to fit my skinny jeans again”, but you want to fit them right now. Then you end up frustrated when we don’t see immediate results. What you may not realize is that you may have fallen for some very common weight loss mistakes. The good news is that you can change that by educating yourself on these weight loss mishaps.
Over-doing it on cardio exercises
Extended cardio exercises are not as effective as you may think when it comes to fat loss. You can actually slow down your metabolism by doing longer cardio sessions. For maximum fat loss results, try shorter, more intense intervals. You will increase your calories burned per session as well as increase your fat burning metabolism.
You eat less, you lose weight, right? Wrong. It does quite the opposite. If you were to skip breakfast, have a small lunch, then pig out at dinner, you will never achieve your weight loss goals. By skipping meals, you are confusing your body. It goes into survival mode because it doesn’t know when the next meal will be. This means that instead of burning the calories consumed, it will store them as fat. By eating 5-6 small meals a day, your body will then burn those calories instead of storing them. Thinking diet pills and super weight loss powders are your key to losing weight. There are enough weight loss advertisements and gimmicks out there to make your head spin! Think about it, if all of these things worked as they say they do, nobody would be overweight. We would take these “ground-breaking” diet pills, and whammo, instant long term weight loss.
Not drinking enough water
The majority of people do not drink the required amount of water your body needs to properly function. By neglecting your H20 intake, you cause your body to store water (just as starving yourself causes your body to store calories). The water gets stored in your ankles, hips, thighs and your belly. Not drinking enough water can also cause you to feel bloated. Also remember that water will do wonders for your skin as your cells will be constantly hydrated.
Starting a ridiculous diet that you can’t stick to for a lifetime
You know which diets I’m talking about. The cabbage diet, the insanely low calorie diet and prepackaged diet, and that’s only naming a few. You need to change your eating habits to a healthy one that suits your lifestyle and budget. Spree dieting may seem to be working, but you are actually only losing water weight. You will not have the energy to exercise as your body will not have the calories it needs to convert to energy.
Remember to think and be positive, set realistic goals and you’ll be well on your way to dropping those excess baby pounds.
